Shounai Elementary (荘内小学校) and Yakiniku (焼肉)

TGIF... 'Thank God It's Friday', we say in English, in many places in the world, I think. And what a wonderful day it has been!

I spent the day at Shounai Elementary School (荘内小学校) today and assisted with the teaching of vegetables to the 2年生 students. I have to say, what a wonderful bunch of kids!! 本当に (Really!). We played a kind of じゃんけん game to practice difficult vegetable names, such as eggplant, cucumber, and green pepper. The kids were fantastic and the teachers were all a pleasure to work with! Thanks again, Shounai!

I want to say 'Hi' to 谷口先生 (Taniguchi-sensei), who has already visited the blog. She is always taking care of me when I visit Shounai and I am very grateful to her for that. Good luck with your English studies, 谷口先生. And a big 'Good job!' to all of the 2年生 students at Shounai!

The next visit to Shounai is scheduled for the beginning of October. I can hardly wait!

After a fun day in northwestern Tamano 「玉野」, I returned home to start the weekend. And, what better way to do that than follow my Main Squeeze's (girlfriend's) advice to go out for 焼肉 (yakiniku... bbq beef)... can you say 'YUM'!! 美味しかったよ。 We went to our neighbourhood 焼肉屋 (yakiniku restaurant) ゑび寿 and cooked up some karubi beef! The Japanese word カルビ comes from the Korean word 'Galbi', and this very popular style of barbecuing is believed to have come from the Korean style of bbq-ing known as Bulgogi (see this YouTube video of someone preparing Bulgogi). カルビ is the short ribs part of the cow in the chuck or blade areas. Take a look at this:

Long story short... it was great, we felt satisfied after our dinner (we had a little beer with the meal, too, of course!), and we rode our bikes back through the rice paddies (水田) to our little, super-hot-and-humid home. To chase down the food and help everything digest nicely, we had some Swedish bitters (links to a Wiki article here, the 'Story of Swedish Bitters' here, and the actual brand that we are drinking [Dr. Theiss] as sold at a health food store in the U.K. here). Not exactly tasty (at all) but it might do our bodies some good. Yeah!

It's late and that Main Squeeze I mentioned earlier would like me to spend some time with her. Maybe we'll see a film? We'll see...

I'm out...
